SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State Head Coach Ty Harrington announced the signing of one more new Bobcat to join with the eight Texas State already announced on November 16. The Bobcats will add Cam Baird, a 6-foot-3-inch right-handed pitcher from Raton, N.M.

The sophomore transfers in from Trinidad State Junior College in Trinidad, Colo., and led the state of New Mexico in strikeouts his senior season of high school. For the complete list of the other eight signees, click here.

At Trinidad State, led the team to its second Region IX championship with 20 strikeouts in 12 appearances and 27 innings … In high school was named All-District … Earned All-Sophomore and All-Junior honors … Named 2014 All-State First Team at pitcher and All-State Third Team as a third baseman … Led the state of New Mexico in strikeouts during senior season … Threw three no-hitters in his senior season … As a hitter, led the state in RBIhis senior year … Also played quarterback for the football team where he won All-District honors … Graduated 11th overall in his high school class … Was a member of the FFCLA … Earned a physical education award.
 
Personal: Born May 15, 1996 … Son of Myra and Rich Baird … Has a younger sister Ginger … Chose Texas State because of the great campus, warm weather, baseball and the town of San Marcos … Favorite hobbies include baseball, video games and weightlifting … Nicknamed Cambo.
 
Recruiting Coordinator and Assistant Coach Jeremy Fikac on Baird: He is a right-handed pitcher who throws around 88-92 miles per hour. Cam has a good, hard slider and commands three pitches. In the recruiting process, his coach, Coach Torrez, relayed to us that what stands out the most about Cam is his competitiveness.
