SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State Head Coach Ty Harrington announced the signing of eight new Bobcats during the early signing on Wednesday. The signees, which consist of seven incoming freshmen and a transfer from New Mexico Junior College, will join Harrington's squad next fall in preparation for the 2017 baseball season.

"The path to championships is to keep building with layers of good recruiting classes. This class will be another great addition to the recruiting classes that are here right now," said Harrington. "It will give us the opportunity to continue to reach the level of success that we work toward here at Texas State."

This class will add six pitchers along with two hitters that can play first base or in the outfield. In addition, two of the pitchers may have a chance to be two-way players for the Bobcats.

22608"We are excited about the youth that we have and the prospect of adding some quality arms to the team for next year was important along with trying to provide key offensive players," said Harrington. "Today was a good day for Texas State Baseball. I think our assistant coaches, Jeremy Fikac and Mike Silva, did a good job of identifying these players' abilities and character. I certainly believe that we have a good future ahead of us."

In addition to addressing the pitching, Recruiting Coordinator and Assistant Coach Jeremy Fikac added that the Bobcats were looking for left-handed hitters for the middle of the lineup as well. Texas State was able to address that with Travon Benton out of New Mexico Junior College and Cole Coffey from New Braunfels High School.

Where the theme with last season's signing class was athleticism, this year's group brings power and physicality along with size. All but one player stands 6-foot-2 or taller. The one player shorter than 6-foot-2 hit eight home runs and nine doubles with a slugging percentage of .564 on the junior college level last year.

Set to join the Bobcats for the 2017 season are Travon Benton (New Mexico JC, 1B/OF), Broc Bosse (Brenham HS, LHP/OF/1B), Cole Coffey (New Braunfels HS, 1B/OF), Ryland Cox (Taylor HS, RHP), Shane Daughety (Tomball HS, RHP), Adam Ivey (Akins HS, LHP), Noah Walker (Bowie HS, RHP), Jack Woodland (Alamo Heights HS, RHP).

Personal: Born November 12, 1995 … Son of Emily Martinez and Michael Benton … Has two younger siblings: Jalen and Braden … Also recruited by Kansas State and Washington State … Favorite hobby is hunting … Nicknamed Big Splash.

Fikac on Benton: Obviously, coming from a junior college, he should step in to make an immediate impact for us. He has juice. He's a really athletic kid and was a junior college all-star. He is a really good defender, but he'll be remembered for his bat because he can really hit. There's a lot of strength in his bat. He can drive the ball out of the yard to all fields. He has enough arm strength to play right field with enough athleticism to play first base. Also, don't be surprised if he gets on the mound a little bit.

Fikac on Bosse: He is a really athletic kid, as you can tell by the fact that he played wide receiver in high school. He has a very projectable body. He has a big, long frame which helps him create tilt on all of his pitches. He has a lot of upside, and he could have an opportunity to be a two-way guy for us with a chance to hit.

Fikac on Coffey: He is a very long, projectable athletic kid. He has power which is something we like in the middle of our lineup, and he has the ability to really hit. He doesn't swing and miss very often, which is important to us. He has the ability to be a force in the middle of our lineup. There is some resemblance to former Bobcat Kyle Kubitza.

Taylor HS, Head Coach Doug Kuhl and Jeremy Mueller | Austin Banditos, Coach Albert Munoz
22612Was named a Perfect Game Third-Team All-American … Named to the 2015 Perfect Game National Showcase Top Prospect Team … First-Team All-District as a utility player … Third Team All-State outfielder … Led his team to a 4A Runner-Up finish … Named Hitter of the Week.

Fikac on Daughety: Shane is also going to get an opportunity to play as a two-way player, but I can see Shane making an immediate impact on the mound. He has a very polished arm with great fastball command. He has a good changeup and breaker as well.

Adam Ivey: LHP | 6-4 | 205 | Austin, Texas
Akins HS, Head Coach Steve Velasquez and Gene Salazar | Hill Country, Coaches Victor Flores and Jonathan Paiz
22614Struck out 12 in upset of Hays … Finished 2015 with a 1.44 ERA … Led team in wins with five … Named to the 14-6A All-District First Team, one of just five pitchers in the district to receive the honor … Named Offensive Player of the Year.

Personal: Born December 3, 1997 … Son of Rebecca and David Ivey … Has an older brother John … His aunt played collegiate basketball for St. Edwards … Favorite hobby is playing video games.

Fikac on Ivey: Adam has a good, downhill-angled fastball that ranges from 86-88 mph right now. He can really spin a breaking ball. We had an opportunity to watch him this summer, and he caught our eye. With his high school numbers he was able to put up, we think he can be one of the best pitchers in Central Texas.

Noah Walker: RHP | 6-5 | 215 | Austin, Texas

Fikac on Walker: He is a low ¾ arm-slot guy who ranges from 86-89 mph and has a good, hard, sweeping breaking ball that he features. We also saw him over the summer, and we think that he's only going to get better.

Jack Woodland: RHP | 6-3 | 180 | San Antonio, Texas
Alamo Heights HS, Head Coach Jason Thompson | Prospects National Team, Coach Trev Sanford
22617Also played quarterback for Alamo Heights … Throws fastball at 88 mph … As a junior, was third in the rotation behind two Division I players signed by Texas and Florida State … Coach Thompson said, "That kid right there would be a top-of-the-rotation guy for a lot of people" … Started 6-0 his junior year … Pitched 10 scoreless innings against Dripping Springs … Named to the District 27-5A All-District Team.

Personal: Born December 12, 1997 … Son of Rusty and Jennifer Woodland … Has a younger sister Lyn … Chose Texas State because it was close to home, is a great program and has terrific coaches … Also recruited by UTSA and Rice … Favorite hobbies include hunting and football.

Fikac on Woodland: He ranges from 88-90 mph with a good, hard breaking ball with a lot of depth. It doesn't seem like there's a lot of effort in his delivery and the ball jumps out of his hand. We like the way he can spin the baseball, and he really likes to compete.
