Oak Farms Award Winners Presented

San Marcos, Texas – The Texas State Athletics Department honored 80 Bobcat student-athletes at its annual Oak Farms Dairy Academic Awards dinner Monday night, in the San-N-Pac room of the End Zone Complex. The athletes encompass all varsity sports sponsored at Texas State.

Each of the student-athletes maintained a grade-point average of 3.5-or-higher during the 2013 spring and/or fall semesters. The ceremony featured 25 student-athletes who were named "Cream of the Crop" award winners after they maintained a 4.0 GPA during one or both semesters.

29 student-athletes were named to the 2013 Western Athletic Conference All-Academic Team. The Sunbelt Conference recognizes student-athletes who were officially included in the NCAA squad list and have maintained a 3.0 or better GPA; however, these award-winners are not released until the end of the athletic competition season.

The "Cream of the Crop" winners included baseball player, Cody Lovejoy, soccer players Natalie Gardini, Maddie Nichols and Tori Hale. Four softball players were honored including Kelli Baker, Courtney Harris, Anna Hernandez and Jordan Masek. Three volleyball players made the list in Amari Deardorff, Jordan Moore and Shelby Vas Matt. Women's tennis player Mariana Perez joined Mara Puisite (women's golf) Jack Rhoades (football), Justin Newby (men's golf) and Correy Moyer (women's basketball). Numerous track and field athletes were honored including Kimberly Kritnich, Julie Lange, Anicka Newell, Keila Rodriguez, Carly Szaba, Tina Valenzuela, Ricardo Aleman, Seth Arnold and Kole Knutson.

Baseball player Cody Lovejoy was selected as the male Scholar-Athletes of the Year, while women's golfer Mara Puisite was chosen as the female Scholar Athlete of the Year.

The Dr. Jean Smith Outstanding Female Athlete Postgraduate Scholarship award was given to tennis player Jessica Kahts in recognition of her outstanding academic achievements and potential for success in postgraduate study.

The men's and women's golf teams along with softball each earned the Emmett Shelton awards for having the highest overall male and female team grade point averages. It is the fourth straight year the women's golf team has earned the distinction.

In addition to the "Cream of the Crop" award winners, other student-athletes honored during the ceremony were: baseball's Blake Bagley, Taylor Black, Justin Dellinger, Cody Lovejoy, Ben McElroy, David Paiz and Colby Targun; softball's Kelli Baker, Courtney Harris, Anna Hernandez, Rayn House, Jordan Masek, Kimberlin Naivar, Coralle Ramirez, Danielle Warne and Ashley Wright.

Other student-athletes honored included soccer players Taylor Allen, Jourdan Brown, Michelle Bucy, Gabbi Cottee, Sydney Curry, Tori Hale, Ashley Jackson, Ali Jones, Landry Lowe, Courtney Maurice, Maddie O'Neal and Kelsie Townsend; women's tennis players Pippa Carr, Kaitlyn Collins and Mariana Perez; volleyball players Ashlee Hilbun, Caylin Mahoney, Cori Schrier and Kelsey Weynand.

Women's golfers presented included Lora Assad and Iman Nordin; women's basketball's Ashley Ezeh, Kaylan Martin, Rochelle Vasquez and Kaitlin Walla and men's basketball players Nick Hinton and Kendell Ramlal.

In addition football's Jeremy Dickey, Ryan Garrey, Terrell Smith and Zach Velliquette were recognized as well as men's golfer David Faraudo Godinez.

Other track and field athletes honored were Morgan Adams, Camille Bender, Danielle Candelaria, Amber Gilmore, Jalisa Hall, Abby Hani, Mylana Hearn, Madison Kuyawa, Sophia Overton, Kelly Trevino, Larron Black, Anthony Johnson, Joseph Pena and Gabriel Rodriguez.
