San Marcos, Texas – The Texas State soccer team had the offense going early and often, en route to an 11-1 victory Sunday over Grambling State at the Bobcat Soccer Complex. Andrea Mauk had a part in most of the offense, finishing the day with a goal and three assists.
Texas State applied the pressure on early, with four shots in the first two minutes, and finished the day with a 34-2 shot advantage for the game.
For the second straight game, Felicia Leask got the Bobcats on the board first, scoring on a rebound off her own shot that was saved and deflected by Grambling's keeper. She scored her second of the day from a shot just inside the box that found the lower left corner.
Kendell Webber got in on the scoring in the 30th minute receiving a cross from Andrea Mauk into the box and making a move before sending a shot on the ground into the net.
Just before halftime, freshman forward Jourdan Brown scored her first career goal scoring on the rebound from Andrea Mauk's shot, to make it 4-0 at the intermission.
In the second half the Bobcats piled on the offense further, scoring seven more times. In the second period six different players scored the seven goals.
One of the highlights of the game was Taylor Kelley's goal scoring on a corner kick in the 59th minute. She took the kick from the right side and the ball sailed over the goalkeeper's head and curved into the back side.
Later in the game Serena Hines tacked on the ninth and 10th goals of the day for the squad, giving her four goals on the season, tying for the team lead. Her second goal was her second converted penalty kick of the year.
The 11 goals for the Bobcats were their most since Aug. 29, 2004, when the team scored 13 against Texas Southern.
Sunday's game marked the last nonconference game of the season for the Bobcats. The team will return to action on Friday night at 7 p.m., against Sam Houston State to begin Southland Conference play.
