Robert “Bobby” Sawicki was a four-year letterwinner for Texas State baseball from 2001 to 2005. One of the most decorated pitchers in Texas State history, Sawicki is currently in the top-four in program history in wins, innings pitched and strikeouts in both single-season and career categories.

As a freshman in 2001, Sawicki made 16 appearances with 13 starts while also playing 15 games in the infield. He led the team with 88.2 innings pitched and was second in strikeouts with 42, helping him be named to the American Baseball Coaches Association All-Region Team, Freshman All-American Honorable Mention, and All-Southland Conference Third Team as a pitcher.

Sawicki had a fantastic sophomore season in 2002 as he posted the second most wins in a season in Texas State history with 11 and earned All-Southland Conference First Team honors. He started 16 games, which included seven complete games and a shutout. He led the Bobcats in nearly every pitching category that season:  ERA (3.57), innings pitched (118.1), strikeouts (124), and batting average against (.242). He also registered victories over top-10 nationally ranked Houston and Rice and saved a game against eighth-ranked and eventual College World Series champions, Texas.

Hampered by a shoulder injury, Sawicki started only five games in 2003 and received a medical redshirt for that season. The shoulder injury continued into the 2004 season, limiting Sawicki’s time on the field. He returned in 2005, though, and appeared in 16 games with a 7-2 record and 3.95 ERA. He was selected All-Southland Conference Third Team following his senior season.

During Sawicki’s career, the Bobcats defeated several top-25 teams, including wins against Baylor, Houston, Nebraska, Rice, TCU, Texas and Texas A&M. Sawicki continues to hold a place in the record books, ranking second in season wins (11) and innings pitched (118.1) as well as third in single-season strikeouts (124). Additionally, he is second all-time in career strikeouts with 241, third in innings pitched with 239.1, and fourth in career wins with 23.

During his playing career, Sawicki was named preseason All-American, two-time academic all-conference, National Dean’s List, Texas State Dean’s List, Southwest Texas Dean’s List, and a member of the Council for Student-Athletes.

He graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance in 2004. Sawicki later completed the Chartered Financial Analyst Program and earned his Master of Science in Finance and Real Estate at the University of Aberdeen located in Scotland. He is currently employed with USAA Real Estate in San Antonio.

Sawicki has also taken his community service experience as a Bobcat and maintained that level of service post-graduation. He visited local elementary schools for reading events and to share his experience as a student-athlete while at Texas State and has continued being involved by working with organizations such as Stand Up 2 Cancer, “We Give Thanks” in California, and the Capital Area Food Bank where he served on the donor advisory council.

Sawicki remains a committed alumnus and plays an active role in supporting the baseball program. He is a donor and member of the Diamond Club and “T” Association, was the opening speaker at the Texas State Baseball Leadoff Dinner in 2011, and actively attends baseball games and alumni weekends.
