Ervin Thomas

Ervin Thomas was a four-year letter winner for the Bobcat football team from 1987-91. Thomas was a center for the Bobcats, dominating on the offensive line while earning Southland Conference First-Team accolades in 1991. That same season Thomas was named a First-Team All-American. 

Thomas originally joined the Bobcat football program as an outside linebacker, but under the direction of Coach Jim O’Hara, he was moved to the position of offensive lineman after his freshman season.  As a sophomore, Thomas was the only underclassmen offensive lineman starter and earned Honorable Mention All-Southland Conference. During his junior season in 1990, Thomas was selected as team captain while splitting time as a starter at both center and guard.  He was named to the All-Southland Conference Second-Team while helping lead the Bobcats to a 6-5 record, their first winning season since 1984.  His senior season Thomas again was selected as team captain and excelled at center while earning First-Team All-Conference and All-American accolades. That season the Bobcats finished 7-4 and challenged for the Southland Conference Championship.  In 2013, Thomas was named to the Southland Conference All-Decade Team. 
Thomas graduated in 1992 and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Urban and Regional Planning and Policy Development. He immediately began a successful career with deep experience in external relations, public affairs and issues management for many private and public businesses. He served as the Regional Director for Golden Crescent Regional Commission from 1994 to 1996 and was a program administrator for the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality from 1996 to 2000. In 2000, he became the Director of Public Affairs and Lobbyist for the Texas Chemical Council. In 2007, Thomas was named the Legislative and Regulatory Issues Advisor at Chevron North America where he is still currently employed. In his role he represents the company in external affairs and strategic planning. In 2011, Thomas was named to the Texas Pipeline Association Board of Directors.

During his career Thomas has received many awards and honors. He was appointed by Governor Rick Perry to serve on a Blue Ribbon Section Committee to honor Texas citizens, communities and companies for their advancements and innovations in meeting the needs of Texas. Thomas is the former Chairman of the Mickey Leland Environmental Internship Program which assists minority college students with interests in engineering, science and law. Thomas is also on the advisory board for the Houston Kaleidoscope Cultural Arts Festival. 

Aside from career accomplishments, Thomas is an active member in his community. Thomas has served on the United Methodist Church Men’s Emmaus Team. He has served as a mentor with the Big Brother Program for Houston ISD and Katy ISD where he has twice been named mentor of the year. He is also active in local youth sports and has served as Director of Football Operations for the Houston Youth Football League and is currently Vice-President of the Katy Seven Lake High School Spartans Athletics Booster Club. 

Thomas currently resides in Katy, Texas with his wife of 17 years and fellow Texas State graduate, Tia. Together they have three daughters: Morgan (15), Evin (12), and Ryan (10).
