Charlie Sharp was a three-year letter winner for the Bobcat basketball team from 1957-60.  Sharp played center for the Bobcats and was a member of the NAIA 1960 Men's Basketball National Championship Team, the only National Championship Basketball Team in Bobcat History. Sharpe was also a member of the 1959 team that placed third in the NAIA National Championship Tournament. He is one of the most decorated men’s basketball players in Bobcat basketball history and is the all-time leading scorer in the history of Bobcat Basketball with 1,884 points.
Sharp’s individual accolades are deeply imbedded into the history books of Bobcat basketball.  He led his team in scoring during all three years he was a Bobcat. His senior year he averaged 23.9 points per game and as a junior he averaged 22.8 points per game. He has the second highest all-time scoring average in Bobcat basketball history at 20.9 points per game. He holds the individual all-time scoring record for most points in one season with 790 his senior year.  He also holds the record for most points scored by a junior in one season with 731. Sharp’s 53 points scored in one game is still the Bobcat record for most points scored in a single game. He is second all-time in field goals made at 665.

Sharp was efficient, leading his team in field goal percentage his junior and senior years, while also holding the individual record for most field goals attempted in a career. He holds the Bobcat record for most free throws made in a career with 554, while shooting 75 percent from the line.

Sharp finished his career sixth all-time in total rebounds at 799 and ninth all-time with an average of 8.9 rebounds per game.  He led the 1960 team in rebounding at 11.8 per game and also finished that season with 340 total rebounds, the ninth highest rebounding total ever in one season.

During Sharp’s three seasons, he and his teammates compiled a 74-14 record and only lost one home game.  They won back-to-back Lone Star Conference titles in 1959 and 1960, and Sharpe was a First Team All-Lone Star Conference selection both his junior and senior years.  In 2006, he was named to the Lone Star Conference’s Top 75 men’s, women’s and coaches team to celebrate the 75 year history of the league.

During the Bobcats NAIA National Championship run in 1960, and their third place finish in 1959, Sharp led the tournament in scoring and was named to the All-Tournament Teams both years.  In 1960 he was named MVP of the National Championship Tournament. In 1959 and 1960, Sharp was named both Little All-American and NAIA All-American. He was voted one of the top 25 players in the history of the NAIA Tournament and in 2012 was named to the NAIA 75th Anniversary All-Star Team.  Sharp was also inducted into the NAIA Hall of Fame.

Sharp was second youngest of 13 siblings (nine girls and four boys).  After leaving Texas State, Sharp was drafted by the Philadelphia Warriors with the 31st pick in the 1960 NBA draft.  He moved from Houston to California in the late 70's. He transferred with Neiman Marcus to the Beverly Hills store where he was a hair stylist and worked there until his death in 1995. He played tennis several times a week at Griffith Park in LA. Sharp loved sports and to make people laugh. He truly loved life.
