Beginning Tuesday, February 1, Bobcat Club members and 2010 season ticket holders have the opportunity to purchase season tickets for the upcoming 2011 season. The general public can purchase season tickets beginning Feb. 15. Those fans purchasing season tickets for the 2011 campaign will have the first opportunity to renew their season tickets for the 2012 season when we begin playing at the FBS level.
Since our announcement to join the Western Athletic Conference in 2012, we have spent a great deal of time working on our future FBS schedules. Our 2011 schedule could have been completed earlier, but there were several dates we needed to leave open in case they were necessary for negotiations when scheduling any of our future FBS games.
It also was important for us to try and play six home games this season, and fortunately, we have been able to do that without compromising our ability to finish our 2012 schedule, which we are extremely close to being able to announce and we fully expect to host six home games then as well.
This year, we will open the season with road games at Texas Tech on Sept. 3 and at Wyoming on Sept. 10. We play our first home game of the season against Tarleton State on Sept. 17 before we begin playing against Southland Conference opponents.
Our first game is against the defending SLC champion on Sept. 24 when we travel to Stephen F. Austin. We open the month of October celebrating "Parent's Weekend" on Oct. 1 when we play our second home game against Nicholls. Then, we travel to McNeese State on Oct. 8 before returning home to play host to Lamar on Oct. 15 before traveling to Southeastern Louisiana on Oct. 22. We close out the month of October with our annual "Homecoming" game against Northwestern State on Oct. 29.
We also have two home games in the month of November to close out the season. We play host to Prairie View A&M on Nov. 5, before traveling to Central Arkansas on Nov. 12 and ending the season against Sam Houston State on Nov. 19.
Season tickets for reserve seats in the 2011 season are just $90 for adults and $60 for youth 12 and under. Bobcat Club and Texas State faculty and staff can purchase reserved seats for $84. Recent Texas State Alumni who have graduated from 2006-11 can purchase season tickets for $69 each and general admission tickets are on sale for $72.
In addition, Texas State is offering family packages of two adult and two children tickets for $274, while Groups of 10 or more can purchase tickets for $81 each.
For the second straight season, Texas State is offering a Ticket Exchange Program in which fans can exchange unused (not torn) season tickets from any of the first five games for the same number of equal or lesser value tickets (if available) to the final regular season home game against Sam Houston State on Nov. 19.
For more information or to purchase season tickets, call the Texas State Ticket Office at 512-245-2272. In addition, fans can sign up or purchase their tickets on-line. To sign up for the season ticket mailing list, please go to: http://www.txstatebobcats.com/sb_output.aspx?form=18.

This is a very exciting time for all college athletic fans as the landscape of collegiate conferences appears to be changing each week. Obviously we are extremely interested in the realignment process, and how we can be prepared to do what is best for Texas State when the opportunity presents itself. We must continue to expand our support base and increase the amount of Bobcat season ticket holders and Bobcat Club donors to make ourselves better; this is something that each individual can do to show their support of the Drive! I ask our fans to continue to support the Drive and our goals and let your friends know about what is happening with Bobcat Athletics.
With that being said, I recently returned from the Southland Conference annual spring meetings and one of the many issues discussed was conference realignment and how the SLC is preparing to do what is best for the league. As many of you are already aware, legislation was passed that will require SLC institutions to participate as SLC members in any sports that are offered championships within the league. This essentially would limit institutions from playing FBS Independent football while having their other sports continue to participate in the SLC. NCAA legislation is being proposed this January that will require any FCS Football program attempting to move to the FBS level to be sponsored by an FBS conference. Both of these decisions are legislation that all of our fans need to be aware of and educated about.
On the academic front we have had another very successful year. 32 student-athletes received their "T" rings and diplomas during the May graduation ceremonies. The NCAA officially released the 2008-09 APR data this month and our teams are doing very well including six teams with a perfect 1000. I am so proud of the coaches, staff, and student athletes for their tremendous accomplishments. When the APR first came out, we had six teams below 925. Today, we only have one with men's basketball but they have had tremendous improvement the past two years. With the numbers we are projecting at the end of this year, which will be reported again this time next year, it looks like all sports will be above a 925. APR has done a part of what it was designed to do, and that is to keep student athletes on track to graduate.
As we start our summer months we are already pleased with the early figures we are seeing for both the Bobcat Club and football season ticket numbers. Our Bobcat Club Donor Fund Drive is off to a tremendous start thanks to our Leadership Council and their teams pounding the pavement across the state and encouraging alumni, friends, and fans of Texas State to donate. To date our donor numbers have improved and I look forward to sharing with you next month the results of our three month push with our Leadership Council. Season ticket numbers are currently at 1050 seats sold, last year at this time we were at 682 season tickets sold. These numbers do not include corporate partner tickets, club level seats or suite tickets. We expect that these numbers will continue to increase throughout the summer and I hope to be able to announce in September record breaking figures for both groups.
Over the past several months we have been working with former Kappa Sigma Benny Boyd to assist our program with the Drive. Benny is a great friend of Darren Casey's and has been extremely successful in the automotive industry. We were fortunate enough to have Benny attend his first athletic event in over 20 years as he joined us for our baseball game versus TCU. Benny was very excited about the direction of our University, the success and growth of our Athletic Department, and our plans for the Drive. At this time we are working with Benny to make an announcement that will help us continue the great momentum we are gaining as a Department.
I also want to wish our good friend former Bobcat Basketball standout and current Indiana Pacer Jeff Foster well during his recovery from recent back surgery. Jeff was in San Antonio this past week and was nice enough to visit us in San Marcos during his stay in Texas. We had a great lunch with Jeff at Grin's before wrapping up the visit with a stop by Vernon McDonald's house.
Finally, please mark your calendar for another landmark event for Bobcat Athletics. We are slated to break ground on our new Track and Field complex on September 11th before our football home opener against Southern Arkansas. With the current state of the economy, we are very fortunate that we have been able to continue to expand our facilities and move forward with all of our construction projects. We hope to release renderings of the facility as they develop.
During the building phase of the Track complex we will also begin the planning and design of the North End Zone at Bobcat Stadium. We have started working on the programming for that project and plan to begin construction in 2011. Recently we contracted FieldTurf to replace our existing turf at Bobcat Stadium with their newest innovation, Durospine Pro. Just last week they began the process of removing the old turf and soon will begin installation of the new turf. The replacement is scheduled to be completed by July 1st.
