There also will be new concession stands, rest rooms and a first aid room built on the concourse of the new complex.

A Strutters Gallery on the ground floor will honor Texas State’s premier precision dance team. It will include costumes, props and memorabilia from a half century of performances before Bobcat crowds, across the nation and in 24 other countries. The gallery will serve to remember the more than 3,000 Strutter alumni and their legendary contributions to the university’s pride and traditions.

The new expansion project will include two elevators, one service elevator that will accommodate the Fields West Side Complex and a second passenger elevator for fans.

Furthermore, included in the project will be a large plaza that may serve as a space for public gatherings and special events.

The estimated cost for the project is $32 million with construction set to begin following Texas State’s 2011 football season. A completion date is yet to be determined.

North End Zone Expansion (see newer information above)

To continue the momentum started with the completion of the Jerry D. and Linda Gregg Fields West Side Stadium Complex, we have immediately turned our attention to the expansion of the north side of Bobcat Stadium. Below are a few of the steps we are taking to make sure the expansion stays on schedule.

• Track and Field Facility Relocation
The process has begun for Texas State Athletics to start work as early as this summer on the construction of a new track and field facility to be located on the east side of Bobcat Stadium.

The scope of work will include a regulation NCAA track including locations for high jump, pole vault, triple jump, and steeple race. The new facility will also include locations for field events including discus, shot put, javelin and hammer throw. The track facility will accommodate seating for 1,000 (metal bleachers), as well as provide restrooms, small concession area, and storage for track equipment. The facility will be enclosed and will utilize campus standard columns (brick masonry), and fence for the front entrance and black vinyl chain link in other areas.

• Subsurface investigation and preliminary foundation report recently completed on the North End Zone Expansion

An exploration of subsurface soil conditions was performed for the proposed Bobcat Stadium-North End Zone expansion. The purpose of the investigation, led by Holt Engineering, Inc, was to determine subsurface conditions at the site in order to establish preliminary design and construction recommendations for the project’s foundation system.

Harris Underground Soccer Locker Room and Athletic Academic Center Renovation Project

Harris Underground, located on the west side of campus underneath Harris Dining Hall, is the site of the new soccer locker room and new Athletic Academic Center. Both projects are currently under way.

This past September, construction was completed on a brand new soccer locker room and bench covers. This was phase I of a two phase project. Phase II, currently projected to start in mid-February, will include a new weight room and training room facility for soccer, along with a theatre-style video conference room.

The new Athletic Academic Center (AAC) will also be relocated to Harris Underground next to the new soccer facilities by the summer of 2010. Renovations of this large space will start in February. This new area will be more than double the space of our current AAC and will be more easily accessible to our student athletes since it is located directly across from Blanco Hall and adjacent to San Marcos Hall (dorms primarily used by all of our freshman student-athletes). Student-athletes will be able to take advantage of a new computer lab, individual and group tutoring/study rooms as well as numerous study desks. The new AAC will house the offices of the Academic Staff and the NCAA Certification Staff which will continue to provide a multitude of academic and life skills services.

Strahan Coliseum Renovation

Over the next two years a projected $800,000 will be spent in renovations to Strahan Coliseum. On January 6th, 2010 the Athletics Department secured O’Connell Robertson to perform a feasibility study and conceptual master plan to guide our department during the renovations. This study is projected to be completed by April 1, 2010 and will include a scope of work primarily related to the interior of Strahan Coliseum including conceptual designs for building entries, ticket areas, concessions and restrooms, office supports, storage areas, concourse (including bookstore), court and concourse lighting, seating arrangements, graphics, signage, basic way finding concept package, relationship with practice/p.e. courts, basic building information and game day circulation and team access to the court. The lighting component of the master plan is tentatively scheduled to begin this summer.

This season we have already started the process of reseating Strahan Coliseum to make the building more fan friendly for our men’s and women’s basketball games. Our intention is to continue to enhance Strahan Coliseum, continue to brainstorm ideas to improve the game atmosphere, and utilize the proposed master plan to guide us during our renovation efforts.

This is a very important project for the future of all of our programs that participate in Strahan Coliseum. We hope to release the Coliseum master plan and include it on our Drive site as soon as it is available.

Tennis Complex Renovations- Bleachers and Sidewalks

The Tennis Center continues its upgrades and renovations this winter that began with the court resurfacing along with the brand new cast iron trash cans, wind screens, and customized maroon “Bobcat” player benches. First, concrete work will be done to make room for larger, refurbished bleachers that will increase spectator capacity as well as enhance the viewing experience. Additional concrete will be poured to create an access sidewalk that extends from customer parking near the indoor courts to the main viewing area, culminating in an ADA accessible ramp that will run alongside the steps. After the concrete and bleacher work is finished a major landscaping overhaul will be completed that will make the Texas State Tennis Center one of the more scenic and pleasant tennis facilities in the region.
